Carelune Privacy Policy
Carelune: Dementia Care Journal ("Carelune", "the app") helps family caregivers record daily notes about the person they care for and organize those notes into summaries and reports. This policy explains what happens to the information you enter.
The short version: everything you record stays on your device. We don't have servers that receive your data, we don't use analytics or advertising tools, and we can't see anything you write.
1. Information you enter
You may enter information like this in the app:
- Care profile: a nickname, and optionally birth year, diagnosis year and notes. A nickname is enough; you never need to use a real name.
- Daily journal: meals, bathroom visits, sleep, mood, behaviors you noticed, and free-text notes.
- Medications: medicine names, doses, times of day, when doses were given (including as-needed doses), and a history of changes.
- Emergency info: optionally a full name, health conditions, allergies, important notes, and emergency contacts (names, relationships and phone numbers).
- Questions for the care team that you save for appointments.
- App settings: text size, reminder times, and similar preferences.
Some of this is health information. It is stored only on your device, in the app's private storage. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.
2. Information we collect
We do not collect any personal information through the app.
- The app has no account or sign-in.
- The app does not connect to our servers or any server, and the Android version does not request internet access.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting tools.
- We do not sell, rent or share your information. We have none to share.
The app store you downloaded Carelune from (for example, Google Play or the App Store) may collect information under its own privacy policy, such as download statistics or crash reports you agree to share with developers. Please see that company's privacy policy for details.
3. When information leaves your device
Information leaves your device only when you choose to send it, and it goes only where you choose:
- Backup files: when you save a backup, the app creates a file containing your records and saves it where you choose, such as your files or a cloud drive. Anyone with access to that file can read it, so please keep it somewhere private.
- Appointment reports (PDF): when you share or save a report, it goes to the app or place you pick, such as email, a messaging app, a printer or your files.
- Emergency info: when you tap "Share as text", the text goes to the app you pick.
- Website links: source links in tips and summaries open in your web browser. The website you visit has its own privacy policy.
Once you send a file or message, the app or service you sent it to handles it under its own terms. Carelune can't recall or delete copies you've already shared.
4. Permissions
- Notifications: used only for the reminders you turn on. Reminder text does not include medicine names or other health details, so it's safe to see on a lock screen.
- Run at startup (Android): used only to schedule your reminders again after the phone restarts or the time zone changes.
The app does not use your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
5. Storage, security and backups
- Your records are stored in the app's private storage on your device, which other apps can't read.
- To keep files you've shared from lingering, the app removes temporary copies of reports it created for sharing.
- Android: Carelune turns off Android's automatic cloud backup, so your records are not copied to your Google account. Use Save a backup to keep your own copy.
- iPhone: Carelune does not store your data in iCloud. If you've turned on iCloud Backup or computer backups, your iPhone's own device backup may include Carelune's data. That backup is handled by Apple and protected by your Apple account.
- Please protect your device with a screen lock. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the app.
6. Your choices and control
You control your information at all times:
- View, edit or delete any entry in the app.
- Export your data by saving a backup file.
- Delete everything: Settings → Your data → Delete all data removes the care profile, all records, medications, emergency info and saved questions from the device. Uninstalling the app also deletes its data from the device.
We don't hold any of your data, so we can't access, correct or delete it for you, and we can't recover it if it's deleted or your device is lost. We recommend saving backups regularly.
7. Children
Carelune is intended for adult caregivers. It is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect information from children. In fact, we collect no information from anyone through the app.
8. Not medical advice
Carelune is a journaling and organization tool. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Always consult a healthcare professional.
9. This website
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking, and it has no forms that collect your information. Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes basic technical data such as your IP address to deliver and protect the pages. If you email us, we use your message only to reply.
10. Changes to this policy
If we add features that work differently, such as optional cloud sync or family sharing, we will update this policy before releasing them. We will also ask for your permission in the app before any information leaves your device that way. The effective date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
